This last weekend my wonderful and not-so-spontaneous husband decided, spontaneously, he would whisk me away for a very, very, very much needed getaway. Just the two of us. For 24 hours. Alone. This time, He even did all the planning. All I needed to do was pack.
I mean, we’re talking super coolness here. He totally stepped outside of his comfort zone and did this, for us.
To say that God has been working in our marriage (and we’ve been trying to let Him and we’ve been trying to yield to Him and each other, hard stuff) is a wee bit of an understatement. It has been hard, very hard, to be married (to me) and there was a time, not so long ago, where we both believed we wouldn’t make it.
BUT, because God loves us and is committed to us and to the covenant of marriage we entered in His sight, He doesn’t just leave us where we are. As we allow Him to change and heal us individually it then overflows to us as a couple. Because of the One, we are becoming one. My gratitude is deep, my humility profound.
I have HOPE for me, for us, for our future. Praise God for His faithfulness to us! In spite of our failings, our UNfaithfulness to Him, our sins, God has extended His grace toward us and as we have received it He has then transformed us. I pray He continues to pour out His mercy upon us, that we would continue to humble ourselves toward one another and, most importantly, at the feet of Jesus.
So, being the insatiable amateur photographer I amuse myself to be, I dusted off my camera (it’s had a lonely summer) and OF COURSE I took some pictures.
Oh, in case you were wondering, we did the “Minnesota thing” and went…you betcha, UP NORTH. I mean, come on, it’s autumn, that’s where a lot of the colors are. We didn’t get around the north shore too much, not like we usually do, but it was a perfect pace of “let’s just see where we end up” and “eh, let’s just hang around here”. And these days, that was pretty much…
Ok, enough rambling. Here’s a peek at what we enjoyed seeing as we definitely enjoyed being with each other. (Thanks again, God!)
From Superior, WI coming into Duluth, looking up at Enger Park
My asthma wasn’t cooperating for me to climb to the top this time
No, we didn’t race along it’s floor although it did cross my mind. 😉
Looking down on the famous Duluth Aerial lift bridge and a huge, anchored taconite ship
I don’t usually caption my images, but I thought it would be cool to this time. You know, since I’m working on letting you into my life more. Well, at least I’m trying to do that.
One of my all time favorite things is the changing leaves in autumn. The vibrant colors amaze me every year, even though I know it’s coming. I marvel at the whole concept of the seasons changing and how incredibly intelligent God was to think of it. I fall in love, and awe, with Him all over again. *swoon*
Also? A childhood memory for you: I remember walking to school as a kid, you know, before buses (well, at least where I lived), and we would walk in the ditches where tons and tons of leaves would collect from all the old oak trees along the side of the road. There’s just nothin’ like the sound of “crunch, crunch, crunch” under your sneaker-clad feet and the crisp smell of cooling earth, tingling your nostrils, blowing in the air. Ahhhh….
What about you? Do you like autumn? Do you say “Fall” or “Autumn”? What are your favorite things, nature wise, about it? In what ways does it get you thinking about God? Do you have any great memories from this time of year? Please, do tell!
