A favorite staple in our home when the weather starts to stay cool but we want to stay warm is hot spiced apple cider. This simple recipe, with tongue tantalizing ingredients, is bound to keep you and yours cozy and warm inside, when it’s cold and blustery outside!

You guys, this is so easy! All you need are a few ingredients, that most people have on hand, and a *crockpot! Seriously! I make this every year for our family, for company and for holiday gatherings at my home. It’s one of our all-time favorite drinks to cozy in front of the fire with. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Now grab your favorite coffee mug and plug in that *crock pot!

Pour the apple cider into your crockpot and turn the temp to high.

While that’s warming up, gather your spices and take a pretty picture of them as you inhale their scintillating scents. (If you have little ones in the kitchen, hand them a cinnamon stick to nibble on!)

Wash and slice your orange, then halve the 2 center slices.

Add your spices and slices to the warming cider. Put a lid on it for an hour or so. The longer it simmers, the better.

Remember that orange? Quarter the rest and put them in a pretty bowl for your guests to add to their cups, if you haven’t eaten them already.

When you come back to check on your cider, stir it up a bit and reduce heat to ‘keep warm’. Ladle some warmed cider into a mug and sip, sip, sip to your hearts content!

Ingredients:

1 *crock pot (about a 3-4 qt size)

1/2 gallon apple cider

4-5 cinnamon sticks

4 whole cloves

1/8 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp crystallized ginger, chopped

2 center slices of an orange, halved

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Add all of your ingredients to the crock pot. Set the heat level at high for about 1 hour. Go tell all your Twitter and Facebook friends what you’re doing and have a wee chat. When you come back, stir the mixture and reduce heat to the ‘keep warm’ level. Grab a ladle and put some cider into your favorite mug. Sip to your heart’s delightful contentment. Repeat as necessary.

* Crockpot: Also known as a slow cooker. Here in Minnesota, we love our  crockpots. We take crockpot-ery very seriously. I, myself, have about 5 different crockpots (and a roaster, which is essentially a REALLY HUGE crockpot) for a myriad of uses. They are an amazing kitchen appliance that I highly recommend. :)
